The Community Power Accelerator Prize was a potential $400,000 grant through the Department of Energy's National Community Solar Partnership. Although our team was not selected as a recipient, we were able to make connections with the businesses and nonprofits in the above graphic along with many others. Here is our submission.
As a nonprofit, we are eligible to apply for many of the grants made available through the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act and are also now eligible for tax credits that were previously only available to businesses and some homeowners through a provision called Elective Pay. Many low income homeowners are not eligible for the 30% Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit because they have no tax liability. For this reason, and because many solar companies believe they are a credit risk, they are often ignored. Renters are often not the ones responsible for utility bills, or if they are, don't see how investing long term can benefit them. We intend to do everything we can to fill this gap.
We continue to seek partners in Lubbock, West Texas and beyond to help fulfill our mission. If you know about grants or other funding sources that further these goals or would like to work together on a grant proposal, or would like to see the options available to you or your organization, please reach out!!
